HT Materials Science cuts chiller energy use at DKSH Malaysia

HT Materials Science (HTMS) has reported a 13% reduction in chiller energy consumption following the installation of its heat-transfer fluid Maxwell at a pharmaceutical cold storage facility operated by DKSH Malaysia. The company projects annual savings of 600,000 kWh and a payback period of 2.1 years.

Maxwell is formulated by suspending sub-micron aluminum oxide particles in a water or glycol base fluid. The additive is non-toxic, fully recyclable and designed to improve heat transfer in industrial HVAC systems. According to HTMS, the improved heat transfer reduces energy consumption while enhancing system capacity.

The project was procured and engineered by Tri Quantity Sdn Bhd, an energy management and audit company in Malaysia. HTMS highlighted that Maxwell can be installed without system downtime, a key advantage for facilities with strict temperature and humidity requirements. DKSH also expects longer equipment lifespan and lower maintenance costs through reduced scaling and improved fluid dynamics.

“This installation demonstrates that smart, science-driven HVAC technologies can deliver immediate cost savings and long-term sustainability benefits,” said Thomas Grizzetti, CEO of HTMS.

“This initiative not only strengthens our operational efficiency but also reaffirms DKSH's commitment to sustainable, future-focused business practices,” added Joel Solomon, Head of Supply Chain Management, DKSH Malaysia & Brunei.

HTMS stated that its contracts include performance guarantees with minimum savings thresholds and annual reconciliation. “Within weeks, we saw verified energy savings—demonstrating just how accessible and impactful these upgrades can be for building operators anywhere in the world,” Grizzetti said.
