Danfoss has announced that Marie Hammer, Director of Industry Affairs at Danfoss Drives, has been elected President of the Variable Speed Drives (VSD) Group and a member of the CEMEP Presidential Board. She succeeds Janne Kuivalainen.
The appointment comes as Europe focuses on industrial energy efficiency. According to the source, motor-driven systems account for 70% of all industrial electricity use, making them a significant area for improving competitiveness, energy independence and decarbonization.
Danfoss said optimizing electric motor systems with technologies such as variable frequency drives (VFDs) is central to a resilient and competitive European industrial future. The company stated that VSDs and VFDs, also referred to as VFD controllers, AFDs and AC drives, are devices that reduce energy consumption.
"The gap between potential and action is the greatest challenge we face," said Marie Hammer, President of the Variable Speed Drives Group and Director of Industry Affairs at Danfoss Drives. "The policies are in place, and the business case is proven, yet vast amounts of energy are wasted every single day in Europe's industrial facilities. The technology to solve this isn't on the horizon; it's here now. My mission, together with the members of CEMEP, is to close this implementation gap. We will shift the focus from awareness to action, deploying technologies that cut energy demand and fortify industrial strength."
