New Eurovent Product Group ‘Rooftop Units’ launched

Eurovent is launching a new Product Group ‘Rooftop Units’ (PG-RT) at the request of members active in this product field. In the near term, the PG-RT will focus on the revision of Regulation (EU) 2016/2281, which is supposed to start by the end of 2020, and the assessment of the rooftop unit sector and its technologies.

Rooftop units are air-to-air air conditioners or heat pumps driven by an electric compressor, of which the evaporator, compressor and condenser are integrated into a single package. It is a mature technology widely deployed in Europe, especially in Spain, France, Italy, and Turkey.

Rooftop units are covered by Regulation (EU) 2016/2281 with regard to Ecodesign requirements for air heating products, cooling products, high temperature process chillers and fan coil units. The revision process of (EU) 2016/2281 is supposed to start by the end of 2020. With the revision upcoming, Eurovent members have requested the set-up of a dedicated Product Group for rooftop units.

Francesco Scuderi, Eurovent Deputy Secretary General, stated: "Part of Eurovent’s 2020 action plan approved by General Assembly is to maintain, reactivate and fill gaps in coverage of Product Groups. The newly established Product Group ‘Rooftop Units’ aims to complement the existing range and open up possibilities for Eurovent members to become more active in this specific manufacturing field within the Association. We look forward to working together with our members on accompanying the Regulation revision process and setting up further activities within the group."

The first meeting is scheduled for Wednesday, 23 September 2020, when the Chair and Vice Chair will be elected, and the scope and timeline of activities will be defined. The Secretariat will be provided by Francesco Scuderi. If your organisation is interested in participating in the Eurovent Product Group ‘Rooftop Units’, please get in touch with the Eurovent Secretariat via this form (login required) or by emailing to secretariat@eurovent.eu.
