U.S. Mint unveils 2026 coin design honoring mobile refrigeration in Minnesota

The United States Mint has released the designs for the 2026 American Innovation $1 Coin Program, including a coin recognizing the development of mobile refrigeration in Minnesota. The announcement was made on October 15, 2025.

The Minnesota coin design highlights a 1940s-era truck equipped with one of the earliest front-mounted refrigeration units. The side of the truck is adorned with icons representing various temperature-sensitive goods, symbolizing the expanded distribution made possible by this innovation. Inscriptions include “UNITED STATES OF AMERICA,” “MINNESOTA,” and “MOBILE REFRIGERATION.”

The reverse was designed by Artistic Infusion Program artist Beth Zaiken and sculpted by Mint Medallic Artist Joseph V. Noorigian.

The obverse design of all 2026 American Innovation $1 Coins features a profile of the Statue of Liberty, with inscriptions “IN GOD WE TRUST” and “$1.” The obverse also includes a privy mark in the shape of a stylized gear, integrated with a Liberty Bell and the number “250” to commemorate the 250th anniversary of the founding of the United States. Edge inscriptions include the year “2026,” mint mark, and “E PLURIBUS UNUM.”

Authorized by Public Law 115-197, the American Innovation $1 Coin Program began in 2018 and celebrates innovations and innovators from each U.S. state, territory, and the District of Columbia.
