BAC launches upgraded immersion cooling tanks for high-density data centers

Baltimore Aircoil Company, Inc. (BAC) has introduced an enhanced immersion cooling tank for high-performance data centers, featuring its proprietary CorTex technology. The new solution is designed to improve system reliability, energy efficiency, and flexibility in handling high-density server configurations.

The tank features a sealed, filter-free design with no penetrations below the fluid level, helping ensure fluid integrity and minimize maintenance. Dual pumps provide redundancy, while the fluid-tight lid, cable entry points, and heat exchanger connections help prevent contamination.

Available in multiple sizes — 16RU, 32RU, 38RU, and 48RU — the tanks are compatible with 19” and 21” server widths and depths up to 1200 mm. The system supports both immersion-ready servers and retrofitted air-cooled servers, enabling efficient use of space while achieving a Power Usage Effectiveness (PUE) of up to 1.05.

The cooling process uses dielectric fluid to transfer heat from the servers to the tank’s internal heat exchanger, with support for water or water-glycol mixtures on the external side. The upgraded tank is the indoor component of BAC’s COBALT immersion cooling system, which can be combined with BAC’s full portfolio of outdoor cooling technologies including evaporative, hybrid, adiabatic, and dry systems.

This integrated solution supports higher-density computing environments, including applications in AI and machine learning.
