Copeland launches KF variable-speed scroll compressor with EV4 drive in US

Copeland has introduced the KF variable-speed scroll compressor paired with the EV4 variable frequency drive platform for the North American residential HVAC market. Designed for 1.5- to 5-ton systems, the new solution targets high-efficiency comfort applications, particularly in cold climates.

The launch comes amid rising energy costs in the US, with residential consumers seeking more efficient heating and cooling solutions. Variable-speed technologies, including overspeed and incremental capacity modulation, are increasingly used in heat pumps to improve performance and comfort in low-ambient conditions.

The KF compressor is optimized for use with the A2L refrigerant R-454B, which has a global warming potential (GWP) below 700, aligning with upcoming regulatory requirements. It features a 10:1 turndown ratio and is compatible with advanced system designs, including vapor injection. The system’s compact size and integration with Copeland’s EV4 drive are aimed at simplifying OEM control strategies and system design.

Manufactured in North America, the KF platform ensures regional sourcing for OEMs and is supported by Copeland’s service and engineering network. The company highlights the platform’s reliability, tested performance, and design flexibility.

“The KF variable-speed scroll platform represents Copeland’s commitments to innovation and continued investments in next-generation variable-speed scroll technologies,” said Brandy Powell, vice president/general manager, residential and light commercial HVAC for Copeland.
