Daikin Introduces Second-Generation R-32 Air-Cooled Chillers

Daikin has unveiled its second generation of R-32 air-cooled chillers, which feature a host of enhancements aimed at improving performance, efficiency, and operational flexibility. Designed for a range of applications, from comfort cooling to critical industrial processes, the chillers integrate innovative technologies and compact design elements.

Key Performance Upgrades

The second-generation chillers incorporate several advancements, including:

  • Daikin R-32 Scroll Compressors: Optimized for high efficiency in both full and partial load conditions.
  • Redesigned Fans: Improved airflow management, reduced noise, and enhanced performance.
  • Metal Compressor Housing: Provides an upgraded aesthetic while reducing noise.
  • Wide Operating Temperature Range: Capable of functioning in ambient temperatures from -30°C to +55°C, supporting a variety of global applications.

Advanced Features for Enhanced Functionality

The chillers include features previously limited to screw compressor units, such as:

  • Rapid Restart Technology: Allows the unit controller to remain operational for 180 seconds during power outages, enabling the compressor to restart within 30 seconds after power is restored and achieve full capacity in under three minutes.
  • Integrated Sequencing and Performance Monitoring: Now standard, facilitating efficient operation and system oversight.
  • Mobile App Integration: Provides real-time data access and simplifies monitoring and management tasks.

Flexibility for Mission-Critical Applications

Designed to support both comfort cooling and critical applications, such as data centers, the chillers are available in two efficiency and two sound configurations. Integrated hydronic-free cooling further enhances energy efficiency in demanding applications.

Compact and Flexible Design

Daikin’s focus on compactness and operational adaptability is evident in the chillers’ features:

  • Optimized Footprint: Redesigned condensing sections minimize the unit's dimensions for better space utilization.
  • Free Cooling Capability: Offers capacities ranging from 150 kW to 1,344 kW, including glycol-free options that reduce pumping system costs.
  • High Leaving Water Temperatures: Can deliver water temperatures up to +30°C, extending free cooling operation in mild climates.

Expanded Capacity Range and New Components

New additions to the range include:

  • Lower Capacity Models (180–400 kW): Dual-circuit models provide high part-load efficiency, with SEER values comparable to screw technology thanks to Daikin EC fans.
  • Shell & Tube Evaporator Option (Above 700 kW): Available for larger models, offering durability and performance for industrial and large-scale cooling projects.

The new generation of R-32 chillers underscores Daikin’s commitment to efficiency, flexibility, and reliability, offering scalable solutions for diverse applications.
