ebm‑papst has introduced the iQx, a new EC motor designed for energy-efficient use in supermarket refrigeration systems worldwide. The iQx replaces the previous NiQ series and is available both as an OEM component and as a plug-and-play system with axial impellers in diameters of 172, 200, 230, and 254 mm.
The motor achieves efficiency levels of up to 68% and allows for 1:1 replacement due to its mechanical compatibility with existing split pole and earlier EC motors. It supports a wide range of applications including bottle coolers, refrigerators, refrigerated display cabinets, freezer islands, and condensing units. The iQx is designed for long service life, operating for more than 40,000 hours depending on conditions.
When combined with the matching impellers, the system offers additional benefits such as noise reduction of up to 8 dB(A) and energy savings of around 6%, compared to standard metal impellers.
The iQx complies with EN 60335-2-89, making it suitable for use with natural refrigerants such as R290 (propane). This aligns with the requirements of the EU F-Gas Regulation (Regulation (EU) 517/2014), supporting ecological and regulatory standards in commercial refrigeration.
Designed for international use, the iQx operates on a voltage range of 100–240 VAC at 50/60 Hz and holds key market approvals including UL, CSA, VDE, and CCC. It also meets IP65 protection class requirements, allowing operation in humid and dusty environments.
