Tecnofreddo’s new DANAE heat pump reaches 80°C using Frascold ATEX-HT compressors and R290 refrigerant.
Frascold and Tecnofreddo have introduced a high-temperature heat pump designed to meet increasing energy efficiency and decarbonization demands across industrial sectors. Unveiled at Chillventa 2024, the new DANAE model operates with natural refrigerant R290 and integrates Frascold’s semi-hermetic ATEX-HT series compressors, delivering high performance and low environmental impact.
The DANAE heat pump supports applications requiring temperatures up to 80°C (176°F), making it suitable for food processing (e.g., sterilization and pasteurization), pharmaceuticals, and HVAC systems for large buildings and data centers. Its use of propane (R290) — a natural refrigerant with a Global Warming Potential (GWP) of 3 — aligns with current regulatory pressures and industry sustainability goals.
Frascold’s ATEX-HT compressors were developed over three years and tested extensively to ensure performance under demanding conditions. Each unit is equipped with a Line Start Permanent Magnet (LSPM) motor, which combines the advantages of induction and permanent magnet technology to boost efficiency by 6%. These compressors are built to maintain high reliability at elevated temperatures and under continuous industrial use.
The heat pump also features high-efficiency heat exchangers and inverter-driven compressor control, enhancing its coefficient of performance (COP) and contributing to significant energy savings compared to conventional systems.
“The collaboration with Tecnofreddo is a significant opportunity for Frascold, which is constantly dedicated to the development of new, sustainable and innovative technologies,” said Mirco Pasotti, Sales Area Manager at Frascold. “Our semi-hermetic compressors are designed to ensure maximum efficiency and reliability across the industrial sector and beyond.”
Gianmarco Asaro, Marketing Manager at Tecnofreddo, added: “The high-temperature heat pump developed with Frascold compressors marks a turning point in our industry, thanks to its ability to combine high performance and environmental sustainability. The choice of R290 refrigerant, combined with cutting-edge components, has allowed us to design a solution that aligns not only with the most stringent environmental regulations but also with companies’ growing need to reduce consumption and operating costs.”
By combining advanced compressor technology and natural refrigerants, Frascold and Tecnofreddo aim to offer a scalable, sustainable alternative to traditional heating systems in industrial settings.
