Johnson Controls expands YORK chiller lineup with Smart Ready and YDAM models

Johnson Controls has unveiled two new YORK chiller solutions targeting enhanced connectivity and data center cooling efficiency.

The company introduced a new generation of Smart Ready YORK chillers with factory-installed connectivity for real-time performance monitoring from the first day of operation. According to Johnson Controls, connected chillers have led to 32% fewer unplanned service calls on average and improved system reliability.

The Smart Ready system includes over 200 performance datapoints and uses AI-driven analytics to detect early signs of deviation, enabling faster issue resolution and reduced downtime. These features are designed to streamline commissioning and improve long-term system performance. Initially available for centrifugal chillers, Smart Ready will later expand to screw and scroll models. The system supports remote monitoring, digital diagnostics, and on-site service options.

“Smart Ready Chillers mark a significant step forward in our commitment to being our customers’ service partner of choice by connecting all our assets from the start,” said Tyler Smith, vice president, Global Lifecycle Solutions at Johnson Controls.

In addition, the company announced the YORK YDAM air-cooled magnetic bearing centrifugal chiller, designed specifically for high-density, multistory data centers. Built on YORK YVAM technology, the YDAM chiller provides up to 3.5 MW of cooling with a 20% increase in capacity density compared to competing solutions, while maintaining a compact footprint. It fits on a 53-foot flatbed trailer to reduce shipping and installation costs. Shipments are scheduled to begin in late 2026.

YORK YDAM chillers use magnetic bearing compressors to support 45°C warm-water cooling for the latest generation of inference and training GPUs. The system also operates with wide temperature differences to reduce pump size and energy use.

“AI and high-performance computing are pushing data centers beyond traditional limits,” said Austin Domenici, vice president and general manager, Johnson Controls Global Data Center Solutions. “The impressive capacity and reduced footprint of YDAM could allow operators to cut the number of chillers on site by up to half, accelerating deployments and helping meet skilled onsite labor needs.”
