Lennox EMEA Introduces High-Performance CRAH Unit for Data Centres

Lennox EMEA has launched a new range of computer room air handling (CRAH) units designed for high-performance data centre applications. The CRAH - ApX Series offers adaptable configurations to meet the cooling demands of hyperscale and co-location facilities, delivering efficiency and reliability.

Engineering-Led Design

The CRAH - ApX Series provides cooling capacities ranging from 20 kW to 500 kW, available in single and back-to-back configurations. With 24 different unit sizes, the modular design ensures seamless integration into data centres with raised or hard floor configurations.

“Our CRAH - ApX Series takes a different design path to that of conventional solutions,” said Matt Evans, CEO of Lennox EMEA. “It offers a number of robustly engineered standard case sizes, an approach that allows us to tailor the design. Internally, components such as the size and type of fans, the design of heat exchangers, optimally configured piping layouts, valves, and specific control requirements, can all be designed to suit the individual data centre.”

Energy Efficiency and Advanced Controls

The CRAH - ApX Series prioritises energy efficiency, featuring Lennox EMEA’s proprietary heat exchanger design. This approach optimises coil geometry, fin type, circuiting, and material selection to enhance performance. The use of EC fan technology improves efficiency, with integrated Active Power Factor Correction (APFC) to manage Total Harmonic Distortion (THDi).

The unit’s control system offers standard or advanced touchscreen interfaces, supporting real-time monitoring and integration with data centre infrastructure. Built-in fail-safe mechanisms, including automatic transfer switches and ultra-capacitor backup, ensure uninterrupted operation. The unit-to-unit network communication enables advanced control functions such as teamwork modes, standby rotation, cascade operation, and auto restart delay.

Expanding Data Centre Solutions

“The new CRAH - ApX Series further strengthens our commitment to delivering market-leading cooling solutions that support the operational demands of hyperscale and co-location data centres. It is the first in a programme of products designed specifically for next-generation facilities,” added Evans.

Lennox EMEA continues to expand its data centre cooling portfolio, which includes close control units (CCUs), CRAH units, fan wall units (FWUs), coolant distribution units (CDUs), chillers, and dry coolers. The company plans to introduce additional products, including new CDU and FWU solutions, reinforcing its position in high-performance data centre cooling.
