Rhoss has expanded its water-source solutions with MidiFLOW-PI, a new range of chillers and heat pumps equipped with inverter scroll compressors and optimized for the natural refrigerant R290. The range is designed for water-source applications in new installations and building renovation projects, including integration with or replacement of existing heating systems, including gas boilers.
Available in the T – High Efficiency version, MidiFLOW-PI covers capacities from approximately 15 to 45 kW (approx. 51,000 to 154,000 BTU/h). The range includes cooling-only units in seven models from 15 to 45 kW cooling capacity (approx. 51,000 to 154,000 BTU/h), hydraulic reversible units in seven models from 15 to 50 kW heating capacity (approx. 51,000 to 171,000 BTU/h), and refrigerant-side reversible units in seven models from 15 to 50 kW heating capacity (approx. 51,000 to 171,000 BTU/h).
The units use R290, which has a GWP value of 0.02 according to AR6 and is not subject to the restrictions applicable to fluorinated gases. The single-circuit configuration combines an inverter scroll compressor with plate heat exchangers and reaches seasonal efficiency levels up to SEER 7.29, SCOP MT 5.56, and SCOP LT 7.32.
MidiFLOW-PI supports several installation configurations. Options include indoor installation in a machinery room, indoor installation in occupied spaces with a ventilated enclosure, indoor installation with a ventilated enclosure and external fan, and outdoor installation with a refrigerant leak detector, axial fan, and open structure with grilles and louvers.
For occupied indoor spaces, the unit can be equipped with a refrigerant leak detector and integrated centrifugal extraction fan. Its sealed structure allows refrigerant containment within the technical enclosure and, if necessary, discharge through ductwork. In the external-fan configuration, the extraction fan is supplied by the installer, supporting installation of up to four units in hydraulic parallel with a shared exhaust air duct.
The units can produce hot water up to 80 °C (176 °F) and 70 °C (158 °F) hot water with source-side temperatures down to -10 °C (14 °F) in geothermal applications. The range can also be configured with numerous accessories.
