Star Refrigeration Launches Azanechiller 3.0 with Enhanced Efficiency and Sustainability

Star Refrigeration has introduced the latest generation of its industrial air-cooled ammonia chiller, Azanechiller 3.0. The new model delivers improved energy efficiency, safety features, and durability while maintaining a low environmental impact.

Designed and manufactured in the UK, the Azanechiller 3.0 surpasses EcoDesign Regulation energy efficiency requirements by up to 110%. It consumes up to 52% less electricity than standard-rated EcoDesign chillers while outperforming UK competitors in Seasonal Energy Performance Ratio (SEPR) by up to 20%. The chiller operates across a temperature range of -20°C to +25°C, with cooling capacities from 140kW to 1,600kW.

The unit is engineered for various industrial applications, including food production, pharmaceuticals, data centres, brewing, distilling, dairies, temperature-controlled storage, and ice rinks. Built with industrial-grade components, it has an extended lifespan of over 25 years, providing businesses with a long-term, energy-efficient refrigeration solution.

Azanechiller 3.0 is fully exempt from F-gas and PFAS regulations, with an ultra-low ammonia charge of just 0.18kg/kW. It is designed to function efficiently at ambient temperatures of up to 40°C, ensuring reliable operation even in extreme heat conditions.

“With over 120 chillers installed across the UK, Europe, and North America, Azanechiller is the most successful and efficient air-cooled, low-charge ammonia refrigeration system on the market today for industrial applications,” said Brooke McKenna, Azanechiller Product Specialist at Star Refrigeration.

The chiller incorporates high-efficiency components, including IE4 motors, variable-speed reciprocating compressors, EC condenser fans, and close-approach heat exchangers. Its industrial package features a galvanised steel base frame, stainless steel pipework, and an electrical control panel, along with high-performance PIR insulation to enhance durability.

Safety improvements include a portable safety shower, enclosed electrical containment within the base frame, and a rain hood for the control panel. Optional features such as a condenser ladder and handrail under Star’s ‘Safe Access Solution’ provide safer servicing access, reducing maintenance downtime.

Azanechiller 3.0 is compatible with Star’s Ethos system, allowing AI-driven performance monitoring and optimisation. Ethos provides real-time insights into energy efficiency and system health, helping businesses reduce energy costs and carbon emissions over time.

The latest generation of the Azanechiller is designed to support sustainability goals, offering businesses a long-term refrigeration solution that minimises environmental impact while ensuring high performance.
