Trane launches CRAH and fan wall units for European data centre cooling

Trane, a brand of Trane Technologies, has introduced new air cooling solutions tailored for data centres and mission-critical environments across Europe. The portfolio now includes Computer Room Air Handlers (CRAH) and Fan Wall Units (FWU), engineered to meet high-density cooling demands with improved energy efficiency and operational flexibility.

The CRAH units offer up to 260 kW of cooling per unit and come in multiple configurations to suit varied installations. Trane’s Fan Wall Units extend the range up to 600 kW, with high airflow to support co-location and hyperscale data centres. Both ranges feature variable speed fans and hydrophilic-coated heat exchangers as standard to ensure reliable and efficient performance under all operating conditions.

These systems are designed to integrate with Trane’s air-cooled Sintesis and water-cooled XStream chillers, both available in megawatt capacities and using HFO refrigerants with ultra-low Global Warming Potential (GWP). The combination allows customers to build a complete thermal management system from a single source.

“Leveraging Trane’s cooling technology expertise and innovation, this solution addresses the growing demand for reliable, scalable, and energy-efficient cooling in mission-critical facilities like data centres,” said Lauri Salmia, Applied Portfolio Manager at Trane.

Trane’s CRAH and Fan Wall Units are modular, enabling flexible configuration and space optimisation. The units use common components—including EC fans, pressure-independent valves, and integrated electronic filters—to maintain consistent temperature control and system reliability. Proprietary control technology enables regulation based on various temperature measurement points, such as supply or return air and server inlet.

The new systems are manufactured in Trane Technologies’ European facilities, incorporating R&D from AL-KO Airtech, acquired in 2022. Customers benefit from Trane’s extensive service network offering preventative maintenance and lifecycle support.
