Carrier to Showcase Healthy Buildings and Low GWP Industrial Cooling Solutions at Nordbygg 2022

Carrier will showcase examples from the company's range of advanced healthy buildings and industrial cooling technologies at the Nordbygg 2022 Exhibition, which takes place in Stockholm, April 26-29.

On display at the company's stand (A43:19) will be:

  • Innovative ceiling air conditioning systems developed by Carrier in collaboration with Barrisol, the world's leading ceiling air conditioning specialist, with integrated high- performance air handling solutions from Carrier to support the highest levels of indoor air quality (IAQ) and aesthetic design.
  • Carrier's award-winning OptiCleanTM Dual-Mode Air Scrubber and Negative Air Machine, based on high efficiency particulate air (HEPA) filters, which independent tests have shown rapidly reduces levels of virus-sized airborne particles.
  • Carrier's new AquaForce Vision 30KAV air-cooled chiller with ultra-low global warming potential (GWP) R-1234ze HFO refrigerant for industrial applications, designed to optimise energy efficiency, while minimising running costs and environmental impact.

"Nordbygg is the Nordic region's largest meeting place for the building and construction industry," said Staffan Bauman, Sales Director, Nordics & Baltics, Carrier.xs "We are looking forward to reconnecting in person with customers, and are excited to share details of our healthy buildings and industrial cooling solutions, which we believe offer outstanding efficiency, reliability and environmental performance."

Ceiling air conditioning for IAQ

Through their combination of low velocity airflow, draft elimination, and ability to maintain highly stable temperatures throughout the occupied space, Carrier and Barrisol advanced ceiling solutions achieve a comfort rating of Class A* for both cooling and heating, the highest possible under ISO 7730, the relevant international standard for measuring thermal comfort in buildings.

The system is available in two options: Barrisol Clim and Barrisol Cloud Clim, both featuring Carrier products. Barrisol Clim featuring Carrier product technology uses a ceiling made from a bio-sourced membrane that is stretched and fixed in position, spanning a room. Air conditioning is delivered into the ceiling void by a concealed Carrier fan coil unit (FCU), and is gently diffused downward through the gap between the membrane edge and the walls – with such low velocity it is barely noticeable.

The Barrisol Cloud Clim featuring Carrier technology uses modules that are suspended from the ceiling, through which conditioned air is delivered into the room. Air can be fed into ceiling modules via an FCU concealed nearby or located in a plenum.

A wide range of Carrier FCUs can be selected to suit the application, including the company's recently developed ultra-low-profile Idrofan 42EP, which at just 150 millimetres high, is the slimmest and most compact FCU available.

OptiClean Dual-Mode Air Scrubber and Negative Air Machine

Carrier's award-winning OptiClean is designed to reduce infection risks in busy workplaces and hospitality venues as part of a risk reduction and mitigation strategy. OptiClean is particularly suited for use in high-traffic and densely occupied spaces, such as hotel receptions, shops, restaurants and classrooms.

OptiClean uses a HEPA filter to removes particles as small as 0.3 microns from the air. Independent tests carried out by the UK Building Research Establishment (BRE) demonstrated that OptiClean cuts levels of airborne particulates in the critical size range (up to 1μm diameter), which encompasses viruses and virus-containing aerosolised droplets, by around two thirds within 30 minutes.

In the U.S., OptiClean was named one of TIME magazine's 100 Best Inventions of 2020, and in the UK was selected as Air Conditioning Innovation of the Year in the Cooling Industry Awards. OptiClean units are deployed at Carrier’s offices in the UK and Finland.

New low-GWP industrial process chillers

Carrier's new line of AquaForce Vision 30KAV compact process cooling chillers with PUREtec refrigerant is optimised for industrial processing applications such as food manufacturing, pharmaceuticals, chemicals, plastics, metal industries and projects requiring ultra-reliable cooling to -12 °C.

The air-cooled, variable-speed screw chillers are designed to minimise energy consumption and impact on the environment while maximising performance and ease of installation and maintenance. Energy efficient solutions like the AquaForce 30KAV chiller support Carrier’s 2030 Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) Goals to reduce its customers’ carbon footprint by more than 1 gigaton.

The chiller is available in four sizes, spanning capacities from 280kW to 800kW into -4°C/-8°C medium temperature process cooling, and from 530kW to 1300kW into 12/7°C high-temperature process cooling or comfort cooling.

For mission critical applications, such as process cooling and food manufacturing, Carrier has developed an ultra-fast capacity recovery option. In the event of the chiller power supply being interrupted, the recovery option enables immediate chiller restart following power restoration with 100% capacity recovery within one minute, minimising the risk of damage to the process or products being cooled.

Carrier looks forward to welcoming visitors to its stand A43:19 at Nordbygg 2022.
