Absorption chiller market to reach USD 2.98 billion by 2036

The global absorption chiller market is projected to grow from USD 1.88 billion in 2026 to USD 2.98 billion by 2036, according to analysis by Future Market Insights. The market is expected to expand at a CAGR of 4.7%, with growth linked to demand for energy-efficient cooling, district cooling infrastructure and waste heat recovery systems.

The market was valued at USD 1.80 billion in 2025. Future Market Insights estimates an incremental opportunity of USD 1.10 billion between 2026 and 2036.

Double-stage absorption chillers are expected to remain the leading technology segment, with an 85.4% share. Lithium bromide systems account for 92.5% of the market by absorber type. Primary applications include district cooling, industrial process cooling and commercial buildings.

Growth regions identified in the analysis include India, China, the Middle East and North America. India is forecast to grow at a CAGR of 5.4%, followed by China at 4.6%, Canada at 4.2% and Japan at 4.0%.

Key manufacturers listed in the report include Thermax Ltd, Shuangliang Eco-Energy Systems Co. Ltd., Carrier Corporation, Trane Inc. and Johnson Controls. The report identifies higher upfront costs, integration complexity, competition from advanced electric chillers and maintenance requirements as market constraints.
