At the COP29 summit in Baku, Azerbaijan, the Global Cooling Pledge Working Meeting took place on November 13, 2024, aiming to address the urgent need for sustainable cooling solutions amidst rising global temperatures. The event was led by the COP28 Presidency of the United Arab Emirates, in partnership with the United Nations Environment Programme and the Cool Coalition.
With over 70 signatories united under the Global Cooling Pledge, launched at COP28, the initiative aimed to cut cooling-related emissions by 68% by 2050 and boost energy efficiency by 50% by 2030. The meeting focused on evaluating current progress, identifying existing gaps, and strategizing future actions, particularly in incorporating cooling targets into Nationally Determined Contributions (NDCs).
Participants engaged in expert presentations and collaborative discussions, aiming to strengthen their strategies and foster partnerships. The outcomes of this meeting were expected to shape future cooling initiatives and maintain progress toward the ambitious objectives set for COP30.
