In celebration of the 37th World Ozone Day, GIZ Proklima hosted learning sessions in Manila and Davao City for Environment Regulatory and Enforcement Personnel. These sessions included hands-on demonstrations by certified technicians and insights into refrigerant recovery and end-of-life management, highlighting their importance for environmental protection.
Supported by initiatives like Cool Contributions fighting Climate Change II (C4II) and the Climate and Ozone Protection Alliance (COPA), the sessions were conducted as part of a month-long celebration. Held on September 18 in Manila at Delsa, Inc. and September 26 at Korphil Regional Training Center in Davao City, they involved all 16 regional offices of the Environmental Management Bureau (DENR-EMB), which regulates chemical consumption and hazardous waste disposal.
Participants learned refrigerant recovery basics using proper equipment and PPE. In Davao, Holcim provided an overview of destruction technology and compliance for carbon markets. As a partnership token, GIZ Proklima handed over a 100 kg recovery tank, emphasizing potential mitigation through proper infrastructure for hydrofluorocarbon and ozone-depleting substances recovered during training at TESDA-accredited RAC institutions.
DENR-EMB stressed the need for compliance with environmental permits such as environmental compliance certificates and hazardous waste certifications for the CTS process.
