World Refrigeration Day has announced the launch of a new global initiative, “IEQ Matters,” marking World Environment Day with a year-round campaign to raise awareness about Indoor Environmental Quality (IEQ) and its impact on health, well-being, and climate resilience.
The campaign aims to highlight the importance of IEQ, which includes air quality, thermal comfort, acoustics, lighting, and access to nature. These elements are critical to human performance and health, yet often overlooked in design, policy, and public discussions, according to the organization.
“IEQ is not a luxury—it’s a public health necessity. We want to make it visible, measurable, and actionable,” said Stephen Gill, Founder of World Refrigeration Day.
The campaign will take a holistic approach to IEQ while also organizing structured awareness days throughout the year. Each day will align with the birthday of a pioneer in environmental design and engineering, serving as educational milestones to promote healthier indoor environments.
The initiative encourages improved ventilation and filtration, reduced indoor noise pollution, circadian-supportive lighting, and integration of natural elements into interior design. The campaign seeks to engage a broad audience, from professionals to the general public, and aims to make IEQ knowledge accessible and actionable for all.
Further details, including the campaign calendar and featured pioneers, are expected to be released in the coming days.
