UNEP OzonAction’s Compliance Assistance Programme for West Asia held a training workshop and coordination meeting in Jordan from 1–4 June 2026 for National Ozone Units from Jordan, Iraq, Palestine, Syria and Yemen. The programme aimed to strengthen national capacities, regional cooperation and implementation of the Montreal Protocol and its Kigali Amendment.
Hosted by Jordan’s Ministry of Environment, the meetings brought together 25 representatives from the five countries, including three deputy ministers, directors general, ministry advisers, national ozone officers and technical experts, alongside UNEP specialists and regional resource persons.
The training focused on providing national ozone officers, particularly newly appointed staff, with knowledge and practical tools for implementing Montreal Protocol projects, strengthening national implementation frameworks and coordinating with key stakeholders. Participants also exchanged experiences and discussed common challenges and practices from across the region.
During the coordination meeting, the UNEP team and participating countries reviewed ongoing Montreal Protocol projects, identified implementation challenges and agreed on follow-up actions. Discussions addressed institutional coordination, knowledge management and stakeholder engagement to support the timely implementation of Multilateral Fund projects.
Participants also visited the Royal Scientific Society to examine Jordan’s work on energy efficiency and sustainable refrigeration and air-conditioning technologies. The visit covered testing facilities, initiatives supporting natural refrigerants, and the role of standards, research and capacity building in advancing ozone and climate objectives.
The meetings concluded with a commitment to continue regional cooperation, exchange knowledge and accelerate the implementation of national ozone projects.
