Eurovent aligns with UK bodies to support French heat pump manufacturers

Eurovent aligns with UK bodies to support French heat pump manufacturers

Eurovent Certification has strengthened its cooperation with UK schemes to support French heat pump manufacturers entering the growing British market. In February, Eurovent met with representatives from the Microgeneration Certification Scheme (MCS) and the Energy Technology List (ETL) to advance mutual recognition and alignment of certification programmes.

The initiative aims to harmonise Eurovent Certified Performance and the French NF Heat Pump mark (NF414) with UK standards. This alignment is designed to simplify market access for manufacturers and allow shared use of certification data across the schemes.

The UK heat pump market grew by 63% in 2024, according to the European Heat Pump Association (EHPA), contrasting with a 23% decline across Europe. This growth has been driven by government incentives such as the Boiler Upgrade Scheme (BUS), which provides a £7,500 [approx. USD 9,400] grant towards the installation of air-source or ground-source heat pumps in England and Wales via MCS certified installers.

Eurovent Certification is accredited under MCS007 and works as a bridge between MCS, Eurovent Certified Performance, and the NF heat pump certification. Products certified under one scheme automatically qualify for the others, streamlining processes for manufacturers.

The Energy Technology List, backed by the UK Department for Energy Security and Net Zero (DESNZ), features energy efficient products that meet the top 25% performance threshold in their class. Since early 2024, ETL and Eurovent Certification have been aligning standards, enabling Eurovent test reports to support ETL applications. In February, alignment was confirmed for five heat pump categories, including air-to-water, air-to-air (split and multi-split), water/brine-to-water, water-to-air, and air-to-domestic hot water heat pumps.

These developments support the use of the NF Heat Pump mark (NF414) as a strategic asset for French manufacturers, facilitating access to UK and European markets through consolidated certification procedures.
