Modine adds stainless steel TurboChill DCS chiller for liquid-cooled data centers

Modine adds stainless steel TurboChill DCS chiller for liquid-cooled data centers

Modine has introduced a stainless steel variant of its Airedale by Modine TurboChill DCS chiller, designed to meet the demands of direct liquid cooling (DLC) in high-density data centers. The new design targets applications in hyperscale, colocation, and neo-cloud facilities deploying AI workloads.

The stainless steel interface improves cleanliness of the facility water loop and enhances system reliability by reducing contamination and cold plate buildup. The corrosion-resistant material is engineered for high-pressure conditions and extreme thermal loads, while supporting precise filtration and fluid management.

When deployed within optimized liquid cooling architectures, the new TurboChill DCS Stainless Steel variant enables the removal of in-row coolant distribution units (CDUs). This can simplify infrastructure, improve Power Usage Effectiveness (PUE), and free up space for additional IT racks.

The unit is suitable for global deployment and meets Seismic Design Category D. It operates with low GWP refrigerant R1234ze (GWP 1.37) and supports ambient temperatures up to 55°C (131°F). The chiller uses Turbocor oil-free centrifugal compressors and features Airedale’s Enhanced Free Cooling technology, which applies larger diameter fans to reduce energy use.

“By combining superior corrosion and build-up resistance with optimized thermal performance, our TurboChill DCS Stainless Steel delivers exceptional reliability for mission-critical environments,” said Art Laszlo, Group Vice President, Global Data Centers.
