Seven faculty fellows will collaborate with engineers and international researchers on energy efficiency and product innovation projects.

Danfoss launches HVAC research fellowship in Florida, US

Danfoss and the FAMU-FSU College of Engineering have launched the Danfoss Research Fellowship Program, a multi-year partnership supporting graduate students and faculty in engineering research focused on HVAC sustainability and energy efficiency. The inaugural group includes seven Danfoss Faculty Fellows.

According to the college, the fellows will conduct research in civil, environmental, industrial, chemical and mechanical engineering. The projects will be carried out with Danfoss engineers, FAMU-FSU graduate students and researchers at the University of Southern Denmark (SDU).

Danfoss executive advisor and former Danfoss Turbocor president Ricardo Schneider said the collaboration has been expanding and that the research projects focus on areas directly related to Danfoss product development and innovation. He also said the joint college’s research facilities, including labs in the National High Magnetic Field Laboratory, Florida Center for Advanced Aero-propulsion Laboratory, Center for Advanced Power Systems and High-Performance Materials Institute, have provided insight as Danfoss develops the next generation of its oil-free, magnetic-bearing Turbocor compressors.

Danfoss said it will provide each research project with $25,000 to support researchers’ professional development and international travel. The company said this is intended to strengthen collaboration with colleagues at SDU and give participants experience through events and presentations.

“Supporting research at FAMU-FSU is part of our commitment to developing the next generation of HVAC engineers,” said Rogerio Federici, vice president, Turbocor, Danfoss. “The research projects align directly with Danfoss’ goals to build a more sustainable future and address critical challenges of energy efficiency and decarbonization.”
