NewCold starts Spain cold store project with 65,000 pallet spaces

NewCold has started construction of its first logistics facility in Spain at the Noblejas Logistics Technology Park in Toledo. The automated cold storage warehouse is designed for 65,000 pallet positions. The project represents an investment of €100 million [about $110 million] and is expected to create 60 direct jobs once fully operational.

The new facility will use automated storage and retrieval systems (AS/RS), together with robotic picking and ATL. According to NewCold, the systems are intended to maximize operational efficiency, reduce energy consumption, and meet food safety standards.

NewCold said the site near Madrid will become part of its integrated European network of automated cold storage warehouses and transport. The company added that the facility will also be integrated into its global network, which serves major food companies in more than a dozen countries.

“At NewCold, we invest with purpose: to offer our customers the efficiency, reliability, and sustainability they need to grow. Our new facility in Madrid will be among the most advanced automated cold chain centers in Europe,” said Bram Hage, Founder and CEO of NewCold.

Total Cost of Ownership (TCO) for Modular Refrigeration Systems in Life Sciences Distribution Centers

by Ramez Naguib, P.E. Introduction Life sciences distribution centers are under immense pressure to deliver consistent temperature control, comply with increasingly stringent regulations, and optimize operational efficiency. Traditional built-up refrigeration systems often prove cumbersome, costly, and slow to implement. In contrast, modular, factory-assembled refrigeration systems have emerged as a compelling alternative. Drawing on lessons from
