FläktGroup has produced its first 2.5 MW (approximately 8.53 million BTU/h) direct expansion (DX) Coolant Distribution Unit (CDU) for a data centre project in the United States. Developed in collaboration with a US customer and manufactured at the company’s facility in Arkansas, the system uses refrigerant-based cooling technology to support high-density computing applications.
Unlike conventional liquid-to-liquid systems, the DX CDU uses refrigerant-based cooling and offers a configurable design tailored to the customer’s project requirements. The unit was developed to address thermal management needs associated with artificial intelligence (AI), high-performance computing (HPC) and increasing IT equipment densities.
The CDU will support a major US data centre development. The first phase targets a 25 MW data hall, with a second phase planned to increase capacity to 50 MW. The wider campus is designed for a total planned power capacity of 200 MW across eight development phases.
The system was designed and manufactured over several months through cooperation between FläktGroup’s engineering, sourcing, manufacturing and project delivery teams, alongside its supply chain partners.
“This is the first 2.5MW DX CDU we’ve produced globally, making it a significant achievement for FläktGroup,” said Marc Hayes, Executive Vice President, Data Centres Americas at FläktGroup. “As the industry increasingly adopts liquid cooling to support AI applications, this project demonstrates our ability to develop innovative solutions that address emerging customer challenges while strengthening our position within the rapidly evolving data centre cooling market.”
