The framework will combine reclaimed HFCs with Solstice HFOs for use in existing refrigeration systems as EU F-Gas quotas tighten.

A-Gas and Solstice partner on reclaimed low-GWP refrigerant blends

A-Gas and Solstice Advanced Materials have signed a strategic agreement to expand access to lower-global-warming-potential refrigerants and increase refrigerant reclamation and circularity. The agreement will support the supply of compliant refrigerants made with reclaimed materials.

Under the framework, A-Gas will use its recovery and reclamation capabilities to produce low-GWP refrigerant blends patented by Solstice. The blends will combine reclaimed hydrofluorocarbons supplied by A-Gas with Solstice hydrofluoroolefins and are designed for existing refrigeration systems.

The agreement comes as Europe tightens conditions on fluorinated gases. Under the EU F-Gas quota system, a 50% reduction in CO2e emissions from F-Gases will be mandated next year, while more than half of Europe’s installed base relies on HFCs or HFC/HFO blends.

The refrigerant blends are used in supermarket refrigeration systems, convenience-store display cases, cold-storage warehouses and refrigerated transport, including temperature-controlled trucks and containers serving the retail food cold chain.

“A-Gas’ Lifecycle Refrigerant Management model supports and enables end-of-life gases to be recovered, reclaimed to AHRI 700 standards and returned to the market,” said Jack Govers, CEO of A-Gas. “This process helps preserve valuable resources, avoid or minimise emissions and support compliance as the industry adapts to accelerated HFC phasedown requirements.”
