U.S. shipments of central air conditioners and air-source heat pumps reached 1,023,571 units in June 2026, up 21.7% from 840,769 units in June 2025, according to data released by the Air-Conditioning, Heating, and Refrigeration Institute (AHRI).
Central air conditioner shipments increased 26.8% to 605,033 units, compared with 477,270 units in June 2025. Air-source heat pump shipments rose 15.1% to 418,538 units from 363,499 units a year earlier.
For the first six months of 2026, combined shipments of central air conditioners and air-source heat pumps increased 3.0% to 4,716,688 units, compared with 4,577,141 units during the same period in 2025. Central air conditioner shipments rose 2.4% to 2,560,139 units, while heat pump shipments increased 3.8% to 2,156,549 units.
AHRI also reported that U.S. shipments of gas warm air furnaces increased 15.2% year over year in June to 320,281 units, while oil warm air furnace shipments rose 5.3% to 2,170 units. Year to date, gas furnace shipments fell 6.2% to 1,552,934 units, while oil furnace shipments increased 10.6% to 14,960 units.
The data represents shipments to customers within the 50 U.S. states and the District of Columbia, including domestically produced and imported equipment. AHRI defines a shipment as the point at which a unit transfers ownership and states that its industry data is aggregated from information supplied by member companies participating in its Statistics Program.
