CANNON Bono Introduces High-Temperature Industrial Heat Pumps

CANNON Bono has announced a new range of high-temperature industrial heat pumps, scheduled for launch at CIBUS TEC 2026 in Parma, Italy, from October 27 to 30. The systems recover waste heat from industrial processes and convert it into high-temperature thermal energy for hot water and steam production, reducing primary energy consumption and associated CO2 emissions.

The range provides thermal capacities from 300 kW (approximately 1.02 million BTU/h) to 4 MW (approximately 13.65 million BTU/h) in a single stage, with a coefficient of performance (COP) ranging from 2 to over 6, depending on operating conditions. Configurations use reciprocating compressors selected according to capacity and process requirements, along with refrigerants featuring zero ozone depletion potential (ODP) and global warming potential (GWP) below 5.

The technology has already been deployed at Cartiere di Guarcino, an Italian specialty paper manufacturer, where a CANNON Bono HTHP 750/S recovers heat from the cooling circuit of cogeneration units to produce process steam. The installation delivers 1,200 kg/h (approximately 2,646 lb/h) of steam at 115°C (239°F) and 1.7 bara (approximately 24.7 psia), with 741 kW (approximately 2.53 million BTU/h) of thermal output, 141 kW of electrical consumption and a COP of 5.25.

The heat pumps are designed for integration into existing industrial plants and can operate alongside CANNON Bono steam generators. Automation and control system integration allows thermal energy production to be adjusted to process requirements. Target applications include food and beverage, pharmaceuticals, pulp and paper, chemicals, textiles and district heating.

“Introducing industrial heat pumps is a natural evolution of our technology portfolio,” said Leonardo Volpato, General Manager of CANNON Bono. “Today, manufacturing companies are being called upon to combine competitiveness, energy efficiency and emissions reduction. By recovering process heat and integrating with existing systems, this new range provides a practical solution to support the energy transition without compromising reliability or operational continuity.”
