Emergent Cold LatAm adds blast-freezing tunnels in Chile

Emergent Cold LatAm will bring two new blast-freezing tunnels into operation in San Antonio, Chile, at the end of June. The facilities are designed to support the export and storage of temperature-controlled animal proteins from Chile’s central region.

The tunnels will process more than 10,500 tons of frozen food annually. They will serve producers and exporters of seafood, pork, poultry and other animal proteins, bringing freezing operations closer to Chile’s main port.

The facilities use CO2 refrigeration systems for ultra-fast freezing. Products can be frozen, consolidated and inspected in San Antonio before export, reducing intermediate transportation and optimizing operational timelines.

“San Antonio is Chile’s main port of entry and exit. With this new investment, we will support producers and exporters in making their export operations more efficient, enabling them to increase production capacity through state-of-the-art technology that helps preserve food quality and safety,” said Lucas Ballivián, General Manager of Emergent Cold LatAm in Chile.

The project forms part of the US$500 million invested by the company in Chile. Emergent Cold LatAm operates nine cold storage facilities in the country and 110 facilities across 11 Latin American countries, with 9.4 million cubic meters (approximately 332 million cubic feet) of storage capacity.
