Secop BD-P compressors enable Coldtainer rollout in U.S. pharmaceutical logistics

Morris & Dickson, a leading U.S. pharmaceutical distributor, has adopted Coldtainer refrigerated units equipped with Secop BD-P series compressors to modernize its cold chain logistics. The move replaces traditional passive containers with a more efficient and traceable system for transporting temperature-sensitive medications.

Following over a year of testing various solutions, the company selected Coldtainer AuO (+2 °C/+8 °C) containers from Euroengel. These 12 V active units meet pharmaceutical standards and feature Secop’s BD50F compressors. The compressors’ variable speed technology provides precise temperature control, energy efficiency, and reliability, even under extreme conditions.

The transition to Coldtainer units brought several benefits: elimination of ice-based cooling, integrated digital temperature monitoring, reduced labor, and improved flexibility. Units powered by BD50F compressors include F0140 and F0330 models for last-mile deliveries, and F0720 models—with dual-circuit systems using two BD50F compressors—for hub-to-branch distribution. Each container includes a 12 V, 165 Ah gel battery enabling over 12 hours of autonomous operation.

“Coldtainer turned a dream into reality,” said Alan Bass, Special Projects Director at Morris & Dickson. “We’ve increased efficiency and improved the quality of our deliveries – without relying on outdated passive methods.”

Over 200 Coldtainer units are now in operation, with Morris & Dickson planning further expansion. The company reports improved delivery accuracy, simplified logistics, and full compliance with U.S. pharmaceutical GDP regulations.

Secop’s BD50F compressor offers a COP up to 1.3, low noise levels suitable for urban environments, and full 12 V compatibility for use in light commercial vehicles, contributing to Coldtainer’s performance and scalability.
