ebm-papst Hungary is investing approximately €570,000 (about $670,000) to expand the photovoltaic and energy storage infrastructure at its Vecsés site in Hungary. The project will add 100 kW of photovoltaic capacity and a battery storage system with a total capacity of 1,572 kWh.

The battery system consists of six blocks weighing around 2.5 tonnes (approximately 5,500 lb) each. When fully charged, the storage system can support continued production for an additional three to four hours during a power outage. It will also enable the company to store more self-generated electricity and reduce exposure to electricity price fluctuations.

The site currently covers an average of around 25% of its annual electricity needs with an existing 800 kW photovoltaic system. Following the expansion and installation of the battery storage system, the self-sufficiency rate is expected to reach around 45%. The project will also enable an additional 400 MWh of electricity to be generated and used on site annually.

According to the company, the investment is expected to pay for itself in under 3.5 years. The installed infrastructure also provides the potential for future expansion into a scalable energy storage array.

“The new battery system is a key component in making our site energy-efficient and future-proof. It reduces our dependence on external factors while strengthening our commitment to sustainability,” said Sándor Egri, Head of the Facility and Maintenance Department.
