The International Institute of Refrigeration (IIR) has opened nominations for scientific prizes to be presented at the 27th International Congress of Refrigeration (ICR 2027) in the Republic of Korea. The congress will take place from August 21 to 27, 2027, under the theme “Smart Refrigeration Systems for Low Carbon and Green Energy”.
The awards include the IIR Gustav Lorentzen Medal, IIR Science and Technology Medal, IIR Women in Refrigeration Award and IIR Medal of Merit. The congress will also present IIR Young Researchers’ Awards covering food science and engineering, thermodynamics, cryobiology and cryomedicine, air conditioning and heat pumps, refrigerated storage and transport, refrigeration systems and equipment, cryophysics and cryogenic engineering.
The Young Researchers’ Awards comprise the Clarence Birdseye, Sadi Carnot, Alexis Carrel, Willis H. Carrier, James Harrison, James Joule, Peter Kapitza and Carl von Linde awards.
The deadline for prize nominations is November 15, 2026. The IIR has published separate procedures covering the conditions and application process for the awards.
The call for abstracts for ICR 2027 is also open, with submissions due by October 1, 2026. IIR members are eligible for reduced registration fees for IIR conferences and congresses.
The International Congress of Refrigeration 2027 (ICR 2027) is inviting abstracts for a dedicated Policy, Regulations, and Standards Track covering refrigeration, air conditioning, and heat pumps. The submission deadline is October 1, 2026.
Topics include refrigerant transition policy, such as Kigali Amendment implementation and F-gas regulations, energy efficiency standards and labelling, and safety standards for low-GWP and natural refrigerants. Submissions may also address cold chain and food security policy, building codes, and heat pump deployment policy.
Authors should select the Policy, Regulations and Standards Track when submitting abstracts through the ICR 2027 website. Abstract acceptance notifications are scheduled for December 1, 2026, with full papers due by March 1, 2027.
The congress will take place in the Republic of Korea from August 21 to 27, 2027, under the theme “Smart Refrigeration Systems for Low Carbon and Green Energy”. The welcome reception is scheduled for August 22 and the opening ceremony for August 23.
Organised every four years by the International Institute of Refrigeration (IIR), the congress brings together researchers, industry professionals, policymakers and academics to discuss developments and challenges in refrigeration, air conditioning and heat pumps.
