More than 130 professionals from the retail, refrigeration and cold chain sectors attended ATMOsphere Network South Korea 2026, organised by Arneg Korea with ATMOsphere on June 25. The event addressed global natural refrigerant trends, South Korean legislation and commercial CO2 refrigeration applications.
Sungkyu Lee, CEO of Arneg Korea, said the Korean market is entering a new phase in its transition to natural refrigerants. Arneg Korea currently operates around 50 CO2 refrigeration systems across Korea and international markets, while more than 200 additional installations are scheduled to come online in the coming months.
Jan Dusek, Co-founder and COO of ATMOsphere, reported that more than 150,000 transcritical CO2 systems have been installed worldwide. Arneg Korea also presented its CO2 Total Solution, covering design, manufacturing, installation and after-sales support, together with a proprietary platform for automated system design.
The event included a case study of Baekyangsa Nonghyup Hanaro Mart, described as South Korea’s first supermarket equipped with a transcritical CO2 booster system. Based on operating data from 2024 and 2025, the store recorded a cumulative 38.4% reduction in electricity consumption compared with a nearby conventional supermarket using HFC refrigerants. Savings reached 48.5% during the peak summer season.
