BSRIA has joined a new alliance that will act as the umbrella body for UK engineering services.
Actuate UK — the engineering services alliance – formed of the leading trade, technology and professional bodies within the multi-billion-pound sector, will speak with a single, shared and authoritative voice to affect positive change in the built environment.
Key policy areas will include:
Business Recovery from the Covid-19 pandemic. Actuate UK is uniquely positioned in the wider industry to bring together construction and facilities and infrastructure management.
Building Safety. Actuate UK is committed to support the reforms of the Building Safety Bill and to contribute wherever appropriate to their development and implementation.
Climate Crisis and Net Zero Target. Actuate UK will engage with government and other industry stakeholders to actuate the change that is needed to advance the Net Zero target within the built environment.
Industry Skills. Actuate UK will act to improve recruitment and retention, champion competency and the professionalism of building service engineers, and ensure there are clear career pathways and opportunity mapping across the sector.

Our industry has seen a lot of change over this past year, and the most positive change is the way that it has come together in dealing with the pandemic. Through the efforts of many in the industry, the Construction Leadership Council has achieved a lot that deals with the here and now, and whilst this isn’t over yet we can, and are turning our attentions to the future – one that is better, stronger and very ambitious with regard to what society needs of us. This means safer buildings and net zero target - two big issues that we have to get on top of - and it is clear that the engineering services sector has a big role to play in both of these.
