Eurovent and AMCA publish fan quality criteria for Europe

Eurovent has published Eurovent 1/15 – 2026 “Quality criteria for Fans and Fan units”, a new Recommendation developed jointly with AMCA International and leading manufacturers in the Eurovent Product Group ‘Fan Technology’ (PG-FANS).

The publication provides industry guidance on fan quality, performance, energy efficiency, acoustics, vibration analysis, testing methodologies, and mechanical design considerations. It is intended to support manufacturers, engineers, consultants, OEMs, and other HVACR professionals in addressing regulatory requirements and improving system performance.

The Recommendation is linked to the updated EU Regulation (EU) 2024/1834, which introduces stricter Ecodesign requirements for fans from 24 July 2026 onward. The regulation also includes mandatory part-load efficiency considerations from 2027.

The document outlines guidance for selecting, testing, and integrating fans and fan units under real operating conditions. It addresses laboratory performance evaluation as well as the impact of installation conditions on actual system efficiency, acoustics, and reliability.

“With new generations and professionals from various industries entering the world of fans, accessing relevant knowledge is not always straightforward. Publications from Eurovent and AMCA play a key role in providing guidance. With the ‘Quality criteria for Fans and Fan units’ Recommendation, we aimed to support this effort as an excellent starting point for the industry,” said Simon Engert, Vice-Chairperson of the Eurovent Product Group Fan Technology.

“The recommendation jointly developed by AMCA and Eurovent provides a consistent and practical framework that offers clear guidance for the design and implementation of fan systems, supporting the selection of optimal solutions,” said Harald Rudelgass, Chair of the Advocacy Committee at AMCA Europe. The document supersedes all previous editions and is available for download on the Eurovent website.
