FREOR Marks 25 Years of Growth in Sustainable Refrigeration

FREOR, the Lithuanian manufacturer of commercial refrigeration equipment, is celebrating 25 years since its founding. Established in 2000 by Rytis Bernatonis to meet local demand for reliable refrigeration systems, FREOR has grown from a two-person startup into a global company with over 450 employees and distribution in more than 55 countries.

The company’s first product, a multideck cabinet now known as the JUPITER, remains one of its most popular models. Over the years, it has evolved with multiple updates and a new design under the NDL JUPITER name. FREOR’s first client was the Lithuanian supermarket chain Norfa, which continues to collaborate closely with the company.

FREOR entered the international market in 2008 by exhibiting at EuroShop, where it has since become a regular participant. In 2012, the company launched the Hydroloop system — a glycol-cooled solution using natural refrigerant R290 — to support plug-in refrigeration and simplify installation without specialized technicians.

The company’s transition to natural refrigerants accelerated with the development of its first R290 unit a decade ago. Its Plug & Cool system, based on propane, is now widely used. All products are tested in FREOR’s in-house laboratory, introduced in 2021, and comply with ISO 23953 standards. FREOR holds ISO 9001, ISO 14001, and ISO 50001 certifications.

In 2016, FREOR updated its visual identity with the slogan Thinking Green, underlining its focus on ecology, quality, and innovation. The company continued to modernize its manufacturing, adding automated and robotic equipment from 2005 onward. In 2019, FREOR opened a new production facility, later expanded to 20,000 sq. m, with another 18,000 sq. m currently under construction — forming the foundation of “FREOR City”.

In 2023, the company installed an 850 kW solar power plant at its site. FREOR has also begun in-house glass door production and launched the NDL equipment line, focused on modern design and flexibility. The NDL range debuted at EuroShop 2023 and has since been adopted globally.

This year, FREOR obtained ETL certification, allowing its refrigeration units to enter the U.S. and Canadian markets. The company also hosted its first global Partner Summit in 2024 and responded swiftly to logistics issues during the NRA Show by air-shipping equipment from its showroom within hours.

FREOR has manufactured over 250,000 refrigeration units since its founding. Its product range includes multidecks, semi-verticals, serve-over and self-service counters, freezers, and heated showcases — all customizable for retail needs. Its network includes more than 35 regional sales and service partners.

“Our people and values guide us in everything we do,” the company stated. “We are proud of our journey and grateful to all who have contributed. We look forward to continued innovation and shared success.”
