Mitsubishi Electric launches air conditioner production in India

Mitsubishi Electric has started full-scale operations at its first residential air conditioner manufacturing plant in India, aiming to expand its presence in the growing market.

The facility, located in Tamil Nadu, was built with an investment of 21 billion rupees (approx. USD 232 million). It is designed to produce 300,000 inverter room air conditioners and 650,000 compressors annually. Compressors are a core component used to circulate refrigerant.

The company aims to meet increasing demand through local production and position India as a strategic base for its global air conditioning business. By manufacturing domestically and sourcing more components locally, Mitsubishi Electric expects to reduce production costs and delivery times.

The company plans to focus on premium, energy-efficient models with higher profit margins and is also considering using the Indian facility as an export hub for markets in Africa and the Middle East.
