New patented platform offers flexible, scalable integration for SPI refrigeration.
AHT Cooling Systems has introduced SPI CIRCUMPOLAR, a patented modular pump station designed for semi plug-in (SPI) waterloop refrigeration systems in commercial retail environments. Developed in-house, the new platform addresses key challenges in decentralised cooling by offering scalable, configurable, and transport-friendly infrastructure.
The SPI CIRCUMPOLAR system is built from modular components that support a range of functions including heat recovery, integration with dry coolers, and distribution for auxiliary heating applications such as floor heating, buffer tanks, or fan coils. Its design allows for wall-mounted, floor-standing, or ceiling-mounted installation, making it adaptable to various site constraints, including retrofits.
With compact dimensions suitable for standard doorways and transport on a Euro pallet, the unit simplifies logistics and installation across store formats. SPI CIRCUMPOLAR is compatible with AHT’s Active Monitoring System (AMS) and can be integrated with third-party controllers, offering openness and interoperability for different building management setups.
“Our goal with SPI CIRCUMPOLAR was to rethink how hydronic systems are built and installed,” said Andreas Uitz, Department Manager Global Product Management at AHT. “The result is a fully modular solution that simplifies complexity, reduces installation barriers, and scales effortlessly – from small stores to large supermarket environments.”
The system supports both direct and indirect heat recovery, as well as connection to air or brine heat pumps, aligning with energy optimisation and sustainability goals. Initial installations across retail sites in Europe have demonstrated practical success, validating the product’s performance and ease of integration in operational conditions.
