FARRAR launches CYCLONE ultra-low cold chamber with forced air convection

FARRAR, a brand of Trane Technologies’ Life Science Solutions business unit, has introduced CYCLONE, a new ultra-low temperature chamber designed for flexible and high-performance cold storage. The product features forced air convection cooling and aims to improve sustainability, temperature uniformity, and operational efficiency in cold storage applications.

CYCLONE supports adjustable temperature set points from -20°C to -80°C (-4°F to -112°F) and delivers uniform temperature control with a tolerance of ±2°C across all ranges. According to the company, the system cools materials over three times faster than traditional cold wall ultra-low temperature (ULT) freezers.

The system includes rapid temperature recovery, achieving up to 50% faster return to set point following door openings compared to standard ULT units. CYCLONE’s refrigeration system is top-mounted and designed for quick replacement, allowing point-of-use maintenance. Heat rejection is also directed from the top, removing the need for clearance space and allowing higher storage density.

Connectivity features include integrated Modbus TCP and BACnet IP protocols for compatibility with building management and monitoring systems.

“CYCLONE is a game-changer for customers aiming to meet their sustainability goals,” said Matt Barga, President, Life Sciences, Trane Technologies. “Designed with sustainability at its core, it delivers high performance and versatile freezing with minimal environmental impact.”

CYCLONE expands FARRAR’s cold storage portfolio, which serves applications in research, clinical trials, pharmaceutical manufacturing, and logistics.
