Munters Expands Data Center Cooling Portfolio with LCX Coolant Distribution Units

Munters has introduced the LCX family of liquid-to-liquid Coolant Distribution Units (CDUs) to meet the growing demand for liquid-cooled data centers. The new LCX units complement the company’s existing Liquid-to-Refrigerant CDU, SyCool LCE, and offer a cost-effective and efficient solution for managing heat rejection from high-density applications.

Designed for large-scale liquid cooling, the LCX CDU precisely regulates coolant flow and temperature while removing particulates down to 25 microns with 99.98% efficiency. The units feature high-efficiency pumps and heat exchangers optimized for specific customer requirements, ensuring reliable and scalable performance.

Currently available in capacities starting from 500 kW, the modular design allows stacking of units to minimize floor space usage. The LCX is engineered for long-term operation and ease of maintenance, with front-only service access enabling side-by-side installation with minimal spacing. The system supports various heat rejection methods, including single-phase cold plates, in-rack CDUs, and immersion pod heat exchangers, making it a flexible solution for next-generation data centers.

"High-density applications are reshaping the requirements for data center cooling," said Keith Dunnavant, Vice President of Offer Strategy and Portfolio Management at Munters. "Designed with efficiency, reliability and ease of maintenance in mind, the LCX offers a scalable data center liquid cooling solution. Our ability to customize components, such as brazed plate heat exchangers and pumps, allows us to optimize the product for each application. The LCX represents a new benchmark in data center cooling technology, delivering tailored performance, reliability and cost efficiency."

Key Features of the LCX CDU:

  • Modular sizes ranging from 500 kW to 1.5 MW to accommodate various data hall demands.
  • Customizable brazed plate heat exchangers and pumps for optimized performance.
  • Advanced heat transfer technology for efficient coolant temperature and flow regulation.
  • Stackable design for space-constrained installations.
  • 316 stainless steel technology fluid filter housing with a high-efficiency cartridge filter.
  • BACnet/Modbus-compatible controller with a 7-inch touchscreen HMI.

Munters has already secured a significant order for the LCX CDU, valued at MSEK 375 (approximately MUSD 35), from a major U.S. data center colocation provider. With this new product line, the company aims to support the growing need for high-performance, scalable liquid cooling in data centers.
