Thermo King launches fully electric E-Series refrigeration units for vans and LCVs

Thermo King, a brand of Trane Technologies, has started production of its new all-electric refrigeration units for light commercial vehicles (LCVs) and vans. The latest E-100e, E-200e, and E-200e Spectrum models aim to support the demands of urban last-mile deliveries while improving energy efficiency and payload capacity.

Designed for vehicles with up to 12 m³ cargo space, the new units are up to 32% lighter than previous models and offer up to 20% lower energy consumption and up to 50% more heating capacity. Available in single and multi-temperature versions, the E-Series models are compatible with both battery-electric vehicles (BEVs) and internal combustion engine (ICE) vehicles up to 3.5 tonnes.

The refrigeration systems feature integrated inverter technology for improved temperature accuracy and energy savings, along with a new heat pump architecture. This enables a heating capacity increase of 40% for the E-100e and 50% for the E-200e. Installation options include roof, nose, front pod, and rear pod configurations.

All models come with built-in telematics and a 12-month connectivity subscription. Smart controls are designed to optimize energy use and reduce the impact on BEV driving range. The lightweight aluminium frame enhances durability and increases available payload. Additionally, reduced noise and vibration make the units suitable for access to low-emission and noise-restricted urban areas.

“We understand how critical it is to balance performance, efficiency and sustainability, especially as last-mile delivery becomes more demanding,” said Graham Wells, Product Manager Small Truck at Thermo King for Europe, Middle East and Africa. “With the new E-Series we are raising the bar for efficiency, sustainability, and ease of installation.”
