Thermocold Launches iMEX HP R454B Heat Pump with Low-GWP Refrigerant

Thermocold has introduced the iMEX HP R454B, a new air-to-water heat pump featuring inverter scroll compressor technology and the low-global warming potential (GWP) refrigerant R454B. This latest addition to the company's product line offers a heating capacity range of 23 to 59 kW and serves as an A2L alternative to the R290-based iMEX HP-N series.

High Performance and Broad Operating Range

Designed for efficient heating in both commercial and public buildings, the iMEX HP R454B heat pumps can provide up to 45°C (113°F) leaving water temperature at an outdoor temperature of -15°C (5°F). The units also produce sanitary hot water, reaching 60°C (140°F) at ambient conditions between +5°C and +35°C (41°F and 95°F), and 55°C (131°F) at outdoor temperatures from -2°C to 46°C (28°F to 115°F).

The Thermocold iMEX HP R454B is the latest addition to our widest in the market range of low-GWP thermal management solutions.”

Key Features

The iMEX HP R454B heat pump incorporates several advanced features to enhance efficiency, performance, and installation flexibility:

  • Inverter Technology: The variable-speed inverter adjusts the compressor operation based on demand, optimizing energy consumption and improving overall efficiency.
  • High Efficiency: With a seasonal space heating energy efficiency exceeding 154% and a coefficient of performance (COP) up to 4.04, the units may qualify for financial incentives and energy efficiency programs.
  • Low-GWP Refrigerant: The use of R454B refrigerant supports sustainability goals while ensuring reliable performance.
  • Wide Operating Map: The heat pump maintains operation in extreme weather conditions, ensuring year-round functionality for both space heating and hot water production.
  • Compact, Integrated Design: An integrated buffer tank and pump package reduces footprint and installation complexity, while external static pressure capabilities up to 200 kPa improve adaptability to different environments.

Supporting Decarbonization Goals

Thermocold’s iMEX HP R454B aligns with Trane Technologies’ broader sustainability initiatives, including the company’s 2030 Sustainability Commitments and Gigaton Challenge, which aims to reduce customer greenhouse gas emissions by one billion metric tons. By advancing low-carbon heating solutions, Thermocold contributes to the ongoing transition away from fossil fuel-based heating systems.
