UL Solutions expands HVAC testing in Italy for heat pump compliance

UL Solutions expands HVAC testing in Italy for heat pump compliance

UL Solutions has expanded its HVAC testing laboratory in Carugate, Italy, to support the growing European demand for heat pump testing and regulatory compliance services.

The facility now offers advanced performance and safety testing for air-to-water and water-to-water heat pumps used in residential and commercial applications. The expansion responds to rising adoption of environmentally friendly refrigerants and new European regulatory requirements, aiming to help manufacturers improve product efficiency and ensure compliance with evolving standards.

Key additions to the laboratory include energy-efficiency assessments, eco-design requirement evaluations, and safety testing. These cover metrics such as energy use in standby and off modes, heat transfer efficiency, and sound power levels. The lab also provides wireless and electromagnetic compatibility analysis to evaluate performance near electronic devices and emissions sources.

Additional services include UL Marketing Claim Verification and custom R&D programs, designed to reduce testing lead times and facilitate access to global markets. The facility supports compliance with EU directives such as Ecodesign and the Ecodesign for Sustainable Products Regulation (ESPR), and UL Solutions also acts as a certification body for KEYMARK.

“These enhanced capabilities in Europe reinforce our dedication to offering comprehensive, unified services for the HVAC sector,” said Alessio Dellanoce, vice president and general manager of the Appliances, HVAC and Lighting group at UL Solutions. “Having performance and safety testing conducted at one central laboratory in Europe simplifies the testing process for our customers and helps enable them to get their products to targeted markets faster, all while demonstrating that their products meet safety and efficiency requirements.”
