pfenning logistics and Nestlé Germany celebrate the laying of the foundation stone in Mecklar

The pfenning logistics group, family-run contract logistics service provider, marked the completion of the earthworks for the multicube east Hesse with a symbolic laying of the foundation stone on the construction site in Mecklar and thus heralded the next stage for the extensive project development.

On a 220,000 m2 site, the multicube east Hesse is being built in two construction phases according to the real estate concept developed by pfenning logistics. The eleven planned hall modules are suitable for storage between 14° and 18° Celsius, which makes them particularly suitable for customers from the food, consumer goods and pharmaceuticals sectors. pfenning logistics has already won Nestlé as an anchor customer of the multicube osthessen. In order to meet the high requirements of these target industries, the logistics center will be implemented according to the storage requirements of GDP (Good Distribution Practice), BIO according to VO (EU) and IFS Food certifications (International Featured Standards).

Right from the start, pfenning logistics attaches great importance to keeping the impact on the local flora and fauna to a minimum. The temperature of the building is guaranteed by modern air heat pumps, which, like the other media in the system, are to be fed by locally produced electricity. This ensures the company’s future independence from gas. In addition, attention is paid to the use of climate-friendly materials during construction. With these measures, the multicube osthessen makes an important contribution to reducing CO2 emissions and is intended to achieve certification according to the highest standard of the German Society for Sustainable Building.

“We are happy about this milestone in three respects. On the one hand, because the favorable infrastructural location creates optimal transport connections to our trade and end customers. On the other hand, because we know that with pfenning logistics we have a competent retail logistics partner as a partner. And last but not least, we are convinced of the extensive sustainability concept that is also being implemented in this project development,” emphasizes Björn Stammer, Head of Logistics at Nestlé Deutschland AG.

The mayor of the municipality of Ludwigsau commented on the progress of the project at the laying of the foundation stone: “We appreciate the good cooperation with pfenning logistics so far and are pleased that the two projects multicube osthessen and freshcube osthessen will create 300 new jobs and positive settlement effects in the region. “

Rana Mathias Nag, Managing Director of pfenning logistics, is happy about the goal achieved as part of the development: “Today we are not only laying the foundation for the multicube osthessen, but also another building block in our nationwide expansion strategy. From this location we can serve the growing needs of our customers and optimally absorb the increasing volatility in the industry.

The mayor of the municipality of Ludwigsau, Winfried Hagemann, and representatives from Nestlé, the general contractor Kleb, the architectural firm Krüger Consult and pfenning logistics attended the laying of the foundation stone.

Case Study – Effect of Louvers or diffusers on air flow distribution and cooling time on a meat log during Chill cycle

By Kushal Aurangabadkar An experimental analysis was conducted on a cooler space measuring 3.66 m × 6.096 m (12.0 ft × 20.0 ft), equipped with an ammonia refrigeration coil, five 30 cm (12 in.) fans, and five diffusers. The study measured airflow patterns, cooling rates, and heat transfer efficiency in meat storage by testing two configurations:

Total Cost of Ownership (TCO) for Modular Refrigeration Systems in Life Sciences Distribution Centers

by Ramez Naguib, P.E. Introduction Life sciences distribution centers are under immense pressure to deliver consistent temperature control, comply with increasingly stringent regulations, and optimize operational efficiency. Traditional built-up refrigeration systems often prove cumbersome, costly, and slow to implement. In contrast, modular, factory-assembled refrigeration systems have emerged as a compelling alternative. Drawing on lessons from
