Vertical Cold Storage Acquires Frozen Distribution Facility Near Port of Savannah

Vertical Cold Storage has expanded its network in the Southeast United States with the acquisition of a frozen distribution center in Pooler, Georgia, near the Port of Savannah. The facility strengthens the company’s capacity to handle temperature-controlled imports and exports, enhancing global market access for its customers. The terms of the acquisition were not disclosed.

Located at 220 Nordic Way, Pooler, the facility spans nearly 350,000 square feet and is equipped with 40 dock doors and over 35,000 pallet positions. Built in 2013, it features high-capacity blast freezing, with the ability to process up to 40 loads per day, and storage temperatures ranging from -20°F to +40°F. The warehouse also includes an extended dock designed for handling high volumes of imports and exports and is USDA inspection certified.

“Our Pooler cold storage facility is just nine miles from the Port of Savannah, the fastest-growing container terminal in the United States. With its strategic location near the port, high-capacity blast freezing, and comprehensive import/export capabilities, this facility enables us to provide our customers with faster, more efficient access to global markets,” said West Hutchison, President and CEO of Vertical Cold Storage.

The newly acquired site will support the distribution of frozen commodities such as poultry, seafood, and produce. Vertical Cold Storage is introducing its technology and operational processes to the facility to optimize efficiency.

The warehouse is managed by Anthony Morgan, a general manager with extensive experience in cold storage and port operations.

Flavio Batista, Chief Commercial Officer of Georgia Ports, welcomed the company’s arrival in the region: “Georgia Ports is delighted to welcome Vertical Cold Storage to the greater Savannah area and know they will be very successful. We will work to ensure that Vertical Cold Storage and its customers see all the benefits of doing business in Southeast Georgia, including a highly skilled workforce and an efficient intermodal network.”

This acquisition enhances Vertical Cold Storage’s ability to provide faster and more reliable service to its customers in the Southeast and beyond.
