Rheem launches RP17AY universal heat pump for U.S. homes

The R-454B unit offers up to 17 SEER2, cold-climate performance and broad compatibility with electric and dual-fuel systems.

Rheem launches RP17AY universal heat pump for U.S. homes

Rheem has launched the ENERGY STAR certified Endeavor Line Classic Plus Series Top-Discharge Universal Heat Pump (RP17AY) for residential applications. The company said the unit combines energy efficiency, flexible installation and smart connectivity in a traditional split system cabinet design.

The RP17AY offers cooling efficiencies up to 17 SEER2 / 11.7 EER2 and heating efficiencies up to 9.5 HSPF2. It is available in 2- to 5-ton sizes (approx. 7 to 17.6 kW), with cooling and heating capacities from 22.2 to 57 kBTU (approx. 6.5 to 16.7 kW), and uses R-454B refrigerant.

Rheem said the heat pump can pair with nearly any R-454B HVAC system, including all-electric or dual fuel systems, Rheem systems powered by EcoNet Technology and non-communicating systems. It can also be installed with nearly any indoor component as a universal replacement with minimal modifications, using Rheem’s system control algorithm.

Product features include PlusOne Diagnostics, Bluetooth connectivity through the Rheem Contractor and EcoNet apps, and the PlusOne Refrigerant Detection System. The patented refrigerant detection design includes an A2L sensor and mitigation board, and pauses operation if excess refrigerant is detected.

The RP17AY is NEEP-qualified as a cold-climate heat pump and is engineered to deliver enhanced heating capacity across all tonnages. Rheem said the unit operates at sound levels as low as 55 dBA and includes a composite base pan, compressor sound blanket, drive technologies, optimized refrigerant tubing and fan blade designs, BLDC condenser motors and PlusOne Triple Service Access.

“The Endeavor Line Classic Plus Series Top-Discharge Universal Heat Pump reflects Rheem’s commitment to innovation that benefits both contractors and homeowners,” said Jeff Goss, director of product management, Residential Systems, U.S. Air, Rheem North America. “From universal system compatibility to advanced diagnostics and variable-speed performance, this unit is engineered to simplify installation while maximizing comfort and efficiency.”
