Mitsubishi Electric Power Products (MEPPI) and Mitsubishi Electric Hydronics & IT Cooling Systems (MEHITS) have launched MECH-iC, a magnetic-bearing air-cooled chiller platform for U.S. hyperscale and colocation data centers. The platform is available in 350-ton (1.2 MW) and 500-ton (1.75 MW) nominal capacity models and has a footprint approximately 25% smaller than comparable systems.
MECH-iC supports ambient operation up to 125°F (approx. 52°C) and is optimized for supply water temperatures of 65–75°F (approx. 18–24°C). The chillers use oil-free magnetic-bearing compressors and Mitsubishi Electric’s patented R.E.D. Cooler technology, developed by MEHITS.
The platform provides fast restart capability, enabling system recovery in under three minutes following power interruptions. It uses R515B refrigerant with a non-flammable A1 safety classification.
