PermaCold breaks ground on 120,000-square-foot cold store in Alabama

PermaCold Logistics has broken ground on a new frozen cold storage facility in Alabama. Designed and constructed by Ti Cold, the 120,000-square-foot (approx. 11,148-m²) facility will provide temperature-controlled storage and logistics services for manufacturers, processors and distributors.

The facility will feature approximately 17,000 pallet positions and rise approximately 50 feet (15.2 m) tall. It is being developed to provide high-capacity frozen storage and logistics services to customers in Albertville and the surrounding Southeast market.

The project is located in a region with poultry and food manufacturing industries. Its design incorporates specialized construction requirements for frozen food storage and distribution operations.

The development team includes JPMorgan Chase, BHM Bank, Alabama Farm Credit, Five Points and UB Community Development, alongside PermaCold Logistics and Ti Cold. The groundbreaking marks the official start of construction.

“Albertville is an ideal location for PermaCold’s continued growth because of the strength of the food processing and manufacturing industries throughout this region,” said Mark Schultz of PermaCold Logistics. “Our goal is to give customers the capacity, flexibility and service they need from a modern cold storage partner. We are excited to invest in this community and to work alongside Ti Cold and our development partners to bring this facility to life.”

Case Study – Effect of Louvers or diffusers on air flow distribution and cooling time on a meat log during Chill cycle

By Kushal Aurangabadkar An experimental analysis was conducted on a cooler space measuring 3.66 m × 6.096 m (12.0 ft × 20.0 ft), equipped with an ammonia refrigeration coil, five 30 cm (12 in.) fans, and five diffusers. The study measured airflow patterns, cooling rates, and heat transfer efficiency in meat storage by testing two configurations:

Total Cost of Ownership (TCO) for Modular Refrigeration Systems in Life Sciences Distribution Centers

by Ramez Naguib, P.E. Introduction Life sciences distribution centers are under immense pressure to deliver consistent temperature control, comply with increasingly stringent regulations, and optimize operational efficiency. Traditional built-up refrigeration systems often prove cumbersome, costly, and slow to implement. In contrast, modular, factory-assembled refrigeration systems have emerged as a compelling alternative. Drawing on lessons from
