GoRecycle has collected nearly one million cooling and air conditioning appliances across Québec, Canada, since its establishment five years ago. The organization reports that its recycling activities will have prevented more than 600,000 tonnes of greenhouse gas emissions by the end of 2026, while nearly 45,000 tonnes of materials have already been recovered from collected appliances.
GoRecycle operates a province-wide collection network supported by more than 170 members, including municipalities, retailers, recyclers and collection partners. The network includes nearly 700 collection locations across Québec and has enabled the recovery of more than 95% of the materials contained in collected appliances.
In 2025, GoRecycle introduced a free doorstep pickup service requiring no purchase in several municipalities. This service complements existing recycling options, including public drop-off points, collection events and pickup services associated with appliance purchases. The organization also provides collection solutions for remote regions.
GoRecycle plans to focus on increasing public participation in responsible appliance disposal. The organization is encouraging residents to use designated collection points or authorized partners rather than leaving end-of-life cooling and air conditioning appliances on the curb.
“These first five years show what we can achieve when residents, municipalities, retailers, our members and our partners work together and rally around a common goal. The results speak for themselves: one simple gesture, entrusting your end-of-life cooling or air conditioning appliance to GoRecycle, significantly reduces your environmental impact. Together, we can now go even further and make responsible recycling a habit across Québec,” said Jules Foisy Lapointe, Executive Director of GoRecycle.
