Daikin Industries said the company and several U.S. subsidiaries have been named as defendants in four lawsuits filed in the United States District Court for the Eastern District of Michigan. The lawsuits allege that the defendants conspired to artificially increase prices for HVAC equipment sold in the United States on or after January 1, 2020.
According to the company, the plaintiffs filed the cases as provisional class actions on behalf of purchasers of HVAC equipment in the United States. The defendants include Daikin Industries, Daikin Comfort Technologies North America, Inc., Daikin Applied Americas Inc., Thermal-Netics LLC and Goodman Distribution, Inc., as well as many other companies.
The first lawsuit was filed on April 20, 2026, by Richard Isom of Florida on behalf of a putative nationwide class. The second lawsuit was filed on April 21, 2026, by Precision Plumbing, Electrical, Heating & Cooling Inc. of North Dakota. The third lawsuit was filed on April 22, 2026, by Safford’s Heating, Cooling, and Refrigeration of New York. The fourth lawsuit was filed on April 30, 2026, by Reliable AC Services LLC of Florida.
Daikin said the complaints seek damages and other relief, although no specific amounts have been disclosed. The company stated that it and its subsidiaries had not yet been served with the complaints at the time of the announcement.
Daikin Comfort Technologies North America, based in Texas, and Daikin Applied Americas, based in Minnesota, manufacture and sell HVAC equipment. Thermal-Netics LLC, based in Michigan, procures and distributes HVAC equipment. Goodman Distribution, Inc., also based in Texas, was named as a defendant only in the first and fourth lawsuits.
The company said that if it is served with the complaints, it will take appropriate action after analyzing the plaintiffs’ claims. Daikin also stated that it is currently difficult to reasonably estimate the impact of the lawsuits on its business results and that similar litigation could arise in the future.
